The Fillies Mile (Group 1)

Some real classy fillies have won this in the past, Oh So Sharp, Bosra Sham and Soviet Song to name but a few. Lyric Of Light won it last year for the boys in blue and she went on to be their number one in the 1000 Guineas where she was disqualified. We haven’t seen her since and they will hope things will work out better for Certify whom they rely on this year.

She’s comes here unbeaten in three having been an impressive maiden winner on the soft at Newmarket over 6 f. She followed up in Group company taking the Sweet Solera (G3) over 7 f on good to firm beating Sky Lantern (subsequent Moyglare (G1) winner) and then taking the May Hill (G2) at Doncaster over this trip where she had Purr Along a head behind. She’s a general 12/1 shot for next year’s Guineas and a win here will see that shorten.

Ollie Olga has yet to encounter the trip though being a half sister to Await The Dawn you would expect her to develop into a middle distance filly next year. She is also unbeaten in three running, two at 6 f and last time out at 7 f at Goodwood in the Prestige Stakes (G3) where she had Sky Lantern a 1/2 L in behind.

John Gosden steps up Winsili on the back of two good runs. A smart maiden win over 7 f on good to firm and a second in a conditions event over a mile at Ascot on similar ground where she had too much to make up on the winner.

Harry Dunlop’s Roz introduction to the racecourse wasn’t very promising. She was last beaten 19 1/2 L over 6 f on the soft at Salisbury. She then surprised at Kempton in a 7 f maiden at 40/1 where clearly she benefitted from the quicker all weather surface. She then showed that was no fluke in a Listed race again over 7 f on good to firm at Sandown where she was let go off at 28/1.

Brother Ed sends Amazons with Frankie Dettori aboard on the back of a 1 1/2 L third to Ollie Olga in the Prestige. That was her fourth run, the first two at 6 f and the latter two at 7 f. The first was a Yarmouth maiden win on good to firm and the second a fourth in the Albany (G3) at the Royal meeting on soft. She was then inferior to Roz by 8 1/2 L in a Listed contest at Sandown before the good run in the Prestige.

Discernable record reads two from four, all at 7 f. An Ascot second was sandwiched between a Kempton maiden win and a Deauville Listed win. She didn’t make the frame on her last start again at Deauville in a Group 3 where she was actually last but only beaten 4 L by Purr Along.

Masarah is the most experienced filly in the race. She’s had seven runs already and contested in three Group 2’s, the Queen Mary, Cherry Hinton and May Hill where she went down 13 L to Certify.

The market is short here on Certify at 5/4. She’s the most likely winner.

However, she’s a small filly and Mahood Al Zaronni has expressed reservations about how she will cope as a three year old. Also she’s only had two weeks to recover from the May Hill where she had the head win over Purr Along.

This makes her worth taking on.

Discernable’s run in Deauville although last to Purr Along bring’s her into consideration but the inform trainer here is Harry Dunlop and his filly Roz (who hasn’t run since the end of July) did have 2 1/2 L to spare over Purr Along in their Sandown encounter.

She may be a filly full of surprise’s , 40/ 1, 28/1 and now.

Recommendation : Roz 10/1 win
