Sun Chariot Stakes (Group 1)

A cracking weekend of racing with Group 1’s at Newmarket and Longchamp.

At Newmarket, the Sun Chariot Stakes is the feature with Fallen Angel setting the standard after her wins at Deauville in the G1 Prix Rothschild, where she beat Ballydoyle’s January a head, and at Leopardstown in the G1 Matron Stakes, where she beat another Ballydoyle filly Exactly a ½L. Both the Ballydoyles fillies are engaged in Paris on Sunday.

Next best in the market is the 1000 Guineas winner, Cinderella’s Dream. She was beaten in the G2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot and then won the Falmouth, where she had a ½L to spare over January.

The G3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown was won by Lady Of Spain with Blue Bolt a ½L back in second. The former is unbeaten in five runs and is a filly on the up. She has yet to tackle Group 1 company.

Both Fallen Angel and Cinderella’s Dream are very good; however, the one to take them on with is Atsila.

She contested both the Rothschild and the Matron and had draw difficulties to overcome. In the Rothschild, she was drawn widest and did better than her midfield position suggested when beaten 3½L. In the Matron, when again she was drawn widest of all, she did very well to come off the pace to finish third.

There’s more improvement to come from Donnacha O’Brien’s filly.
