The Irish Derby (G1)

Fiscal Rules on debut at the Curragh

Jim Bolger might be line for his third Irish Derby after St Jovite gave him his first in 1992 and the ill-fated Trading Leather gave him his second in 2013.

Fiscal Rules made his debut at the Curragh last year in a maiden over 7f.

He broke prominently, taking it up at the 2f pole, he showed a nice turn of foot stretching out well, he was collared on the line going down just a head to Wichita.

Jim used the Irish Guineas as his springboard back where again he ran a fine race to be fifth behind Siskin going down only 4L. Ridden with more restraint Kevin Manning asked him for his effort three out, he came wide improving his position making ground all the time under a hands and heels ride. At the line, he looked to have plenty in the tank and this stiffer test over the extra half mile will surley suit.

He ‘s by Make Believe, a French Guineas winner out of Gold Mirage, a mare Jackie bred who won over a mile and a half.

If he shows the same type of class he showed at the Curragh last year, and again this year, then he’s a great chance of breaking his maiden in this Irish Derby.

Recommendation: Fiscal Rules 15/2 win
