Monarch Of Egypt was unlucky at the Curragh last time out in the Irish Guineas, seventh beaten 5¼L, he’d have been a lot closer had he got a clear run. Ridden by Declan McDonagh he tried to come up the inside but found no daylight, when he did, it was all too late but he ran on with great credit doing his best work in the last furlong.
The rain is falling at Ascot where the ground is now soft, last year at the Curragh he only went down ¾L to Siskin in the Phoenix when the ground was desperate. The drop back in trip shouldn’t inconvenience either given the ground will make it a real test.
