Coral-Eclipse (Group 1)
July 5, 2025
Six line up for the first meeting of the generations, one from France, two from England, and three from Ireland.
Sosie crosses the Channel. Andre Fabre’s 4-year-old charge comes here in search of a fourth Group 1. Last year he took the Grand Prix de Paris over 1m4f at Longchamp. This year, he’s added in his last two outings, the Prix Ganay over 1m2½f and the Prix d’Ispahan over 1mf. He’ll once again be ridden by regular pilot Maxime Guyon.
Crossing the Irish Sea are 3 three-year-olds. Aidan O’Brien sends Camille Pissarro and Delacroix. Ryan Moore stays loyal to Delacroix, having ridden him in the Derby. He’s yet to pass the post first in a G1, yet he feels there is more to come and that Epsom was not his true running.

Delacroix winning on debut at the Curragh
It’s a fair statement as he’s rejected the ride on a double G1 winner, Camille Pissarro, having won the Prix du Jockey Club on him at Chantilly, it is now Christophe Soumillon who will once again hold the reins, having tasted success on him last year in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

Hotazhell winning the G2 Beresford Stakes
Jessica Harrington sends Hotazhell under Shane Foley. He’s a G 1 winner. He got the measure of Delacroix in the Futurity Trophy Stakes last year and ran a cracker on return this year in the Irish 1000 Guineas when third to Field Of Gold.
Godolphin have a pair.
The lightly raced 4-year-old, Ombudsman from the John and Thady Gosden yard, is the new kid on the block. He was an emphatic winner of the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes over 1m2f at Royal Ascot and is the choice of William Buick.
Charlie Appleby’s 2000 Guineas winner Ruling Court, now the mount of Oisin Murphy, was withdrawn from the Derby with the ground considered too slow for him. He waited for the St James’s Palace Stakes over 1m when, without getting in a blow, he ran third to Field Of Gold.
It’s a fascinating contest dripping in quality. Ombudsman looked like the real deal in the Prince Of Wales’s, Sosie won the d’Ispahan readily, Camille Pissarro showed a nice turn of foot to capture the Prix du Jockey Club, Delacroix hated Epsom but was very good in his two previous outings, Ruling Court was a good Guineas winner, Hotazhell got the better of Delacroix last year at Doncaster.
It’s Sosie who stands out on form. He beat Sardinian Warrior last time out, who’d beaten Docklands in his previous run. Docklands put a nice shine to the form when winning the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot.
Recommendation
Sosie 5/1 win
