Fillies’ Mile (Group 1)
October 13, 2023
The Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket has attracted a field of eight with three traveling from Ireland. Aidan O’Brien sends two, Yiang Ylang will be ridden by Ryan Moore and Brillant will be ridden by Gavin Ryan. Noel Meade sends Caught U Looking to be partnered by Colin Keane.

Caught U Looking winning at Leopardstown in July
Yiang Ylang was impressive on debut at the Curragh winning her Maiden in June with Caught U Looking, also making her debut, finishing 9L in arrears in sixth place. She enhanced her reputation further when upped in class in July taking the G3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown from Willie McCreery’s Vespertilio, who went on to take the G2 Debuntant Stakes 1¾L from Ger Lyons, Sakti at the Curragh in August.
The wheels came off the bus in the G1 Moyglare Stakes, when going off 6/5 fav, she finished well beaten, trailing in an eased-down last. Brillant finished two places in front of her, the pair separated by Pearls and Rubies who went on to finish second in the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes. She went to Newmarket looking for redemption in the G2 Rockfel and whilst there was improvement she could only manage third behind Carla’s Way and today’s market leader, Shuwari who’d a ½L to spare over subsequent Moyglare winner Fallen Angel at Sandown when winning at Listed level at Sandown prior to the Rockfel.
Ralph Beckett’s Classic Song, in the ownership of Doreen Tabor, was second on debut at Goodwood and then won her Maiden at Sandown 3L from Beautiful Love who went on to win a Novice Stakes at Newmarket.

Caught U Looking who’d left her debut run behind when winning her Maiden by 5L from Stromberg (since twice a winner) second time out at Leopardstown in July. She then won the Park Weld Stakes at the Curragh a ½L from Sakti with Brillant a neck behind in third.
Brillant might only the one win to her name in eight runs, she beat Satki a neck in a Leopardstown Maiden in July. She’s been busy since, upped to pattern company she had five runs in quick succession, the best of which was her third to Caught U Looking, last week she was fifth at G3 level beaten 5¼L.

Caught U Looking after winning at Leopardtown
It’s an open contest with some holes in the form. Shuwari beat the Moyglare winner but then got beat in the Rockfel with Yiang Ylang behind. Caught U Looking looked good in the Park Weld however she’d had to work hard to reel in Sakti and Brillant who’d made the running. With an eight-runner field, at the prices, the one to take a chance on is Brillant. She’ll most likely be asked to make the running again but being battle-hardened and, like Pearls and Rubies who finished second at a big price in the Cheveley Park, she can also run into a place.
