In the Breeders Cup Turf Mile we’ve three, Mother Earth for Aidan O’Brien, Pearls Galore for Paddy Twomey and Real Appeal for Jessica Harrington.

Mother Earth has been a busy bee, this will be her seventeenth run. Last year she finished second in the Juvenile Fillies Turf at this meeting at Keenland. Pearls Galore came from Freddy Head’s yard in France to begin her three year old career with Paddy Twomey. She hadn’t been placed in two runs for Freddy but first time out for Paddy she won a Limerick Maiden. She followed up in a Handicap at Cork, and in her final outing at three, she was second to Champers Ellesees in the G3 Fairy Bridge Stakes at Gowan Park, a run in November at Dundalk on the All Weather was not to her liking where she finished down the field.

This year three Group 3’s kicked off her season, third to Real Appeal in the Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown was followed by wins in the Brownstown Stakes Stakes at Fairyhouse and in the Fairy Bridge Stakes, this time at Tipperary. She’d earned her crack at a G1 and that came in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown where she finished second to No Speak Alexander, a place in front of Mother Earth in a controversial result where the first past the post wasn’t thrown out having caused major interference in the closing stages, Mother Earth suffering the most. In France in the Prix de la Foret another great run, she finished second to Space Blues. Billy Lee gets the leg up.

The Breeders Cup Turf – 11.40 GMT

In the Turf we’ve five running.

Tarnawa is a worthy favourite, She was a triple G1 winner last year, the first, the Prix Vermeille, then the Prix de l’Opera, both at ParisLonchamp, then this, Breeders Cup Turf at Keenland, the former two under Christophe Soumillon, the latter under Colin Keane who is reunited with Dermot Weld’s star.

This year she was campaigned late with the big Autumn races targeted. Her seasonal reappearence came in August in the Ballyroan Stakes where she won with ease. Next up was the Irish Chmpion Stakes where she was carried across the track by St Marks Basilica going down ¾L. In the Arc she battled on to be second, outstayed on miserable ground.

Yes – Tarnawa is drawn wide in 11. Given she likes to pass horses that is an advantage, Of the Ballydoyle horses, Japan could go well and get placed.
