bet365 Fillies’ Mile (Group 1)

Eight go to post in the Fillies’ Mile, with Godolphin’s Musical Times leading the market as 4/9f.

Charlie Appleby has raced her three times and welcomed her back into the winners’ enclosure on each occasion. Last time, she took the G2 May Hill at Doncaster in a visually impressive display, winning by an easy 7½L. William Buick will do the steering.

Ed Bethnall will be excited to take her on. His filly, Rouge Passion, has run four times, winning three. Her last run was at Longchamp, where she won the G2 Qatar Prix d’Aumale over 1m. She beat Amuslingly and Data fair and square. The former won the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere over 7f last weekend, beating the colts, while the latter ran second in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac. Rossa Ryan will ride.

Andrew Balding runs Forbidden Fire; she raced twice, winning both. She was an easy winner of a Salisbury Novice over 6f and got home a head in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster over 7f. Oisin Murphy is in the plate.

Andrew also runs Scammessa Sicura under Safie Osbourne. She’s had six runs, winning one, second in five, two of them behind Musical Times; first time a neck separated them, then at Doncaster she was the one in the rear-view mirror, beaten 7½L

Simon and Ed Chrisford run Lex Victoria. She’s also won both her runs to date, a Maiden here and a Novice at Kempton, both over 7f. In the latter, she beat Pink Larkspur by 4L, and she won a Novice at Ascot next time out.

Aidan O’Brien sends a pair. Haven will be partnered by Ryan Moore. She’s thrice raced, appearing at the Galway Festival running eighth under apprentice Jack Cleary, then finishing second under Wayne Lordan in a Cork Maiden, beaten 3¼L. Wayne then won on her at Dundalk, all races over 7f.

Colin Keane will ride the other Ballydoyle filly, Exceptionally. She’s yet to win in five attempts; however, her last run, where she finished third, was given some momentum when the horse who was second, Silver Kiss won a Thurles Maiden yesterday.

Joseph O’Brien sends Dancing Destiny. She’s twice a winner from seven starts. She was a neck second to Green Empress, who won the Boussac last weekend, in the G2 Debutante in August, and then finished behind her again in the G1 Moyglare Stakes when both were second and third to Sun Goddess.

Conclusion

Musical Times looked a cut above the rest at Doncaster. She follows the same path as Charlie Appleby’s other winner of this, Desert Flower, who won in 2024, and then went on to win the 1000 Guineas the following year; however, the depth of the form to date doesn’t justify such a short price.

Rouge Passion is an alternative at 4/1 given she beat Amusingly. Less so Forbidden Fire and Lex Victoria.

It’s hard to discount Aidan O’Brien’s Haven given he won this last year with Precise and with Ylang Ylang in 2023; he’ll actually be looking for his eighth win in the race.

There are 3 places on offer here.

Dancing Destiny has to go into the mix given her form with Green Empress, at 22/1 she’s an attractive each way proposition. Oh, it’s also worth mentioning Joseph won it with Iridessa in 2018 at 14/1 and with Pretty Gorgeous in 2020 at 5/2.
