Aidan O’Brien sends the three year old Say to see if she can build on her third place in the G 1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown last month where she only went down 1/2 L to La Collina and Lily’s Angel. Joe Bravo has been booked to ride.
Say has only won twice in eleven starts but has in defeat put in some very good performances. Prior to the Matron she beat Aloof in the G3 Dance Design, was second beaten a neck at York by Obsession in the Galtres Stakes and also ran a cracker to be second to Dank in the G2 Kilboy Estate Stakes at the Curragh. Dank went to Arlington to impressively win the G1 Beverley D Stakes.
She’s accompanied on the trip by Amazonas from the Ed Dunlop yard who made a belated seasonal debut when winning a listed contest at Haydock in August. She finished her two year old season with a third in the Fillies Mile at Ascot.
The home team is led by Dayatthesepa who is a Grade 1 winner having taken the Queen Elizabeth 11 Challenge Stakes here last October. She prepped for this with a stakes win at Saratoga in August.
Another interesting home contender is Better Lucky who was second to Stephanie’s Kitten in the G1 Just A Game in June but didn’t build on that next time out at Group 3 level when only third.
The Ballydoyle team will probably have one eye on the Breeders Cup with Say. The European challenge is a timely reminder of the looming Breeders Cup and this contest will give us some indication of how the European fillies stand against their American counterparts.
In the meantime we’ll have to Say yes.
Recommendation : Say 7/2 win
