Coral-Eclipse (Group 1)

Four go to post for the first meeting of the generations.

Three-year-old Paddington is a worthy favourite given what he’s done at the Curragh and Ascot where he was a good winner of the Irish 2000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes over 1m.

Four-year-old Emily Upjohn was unlucky in the Oaks last year when she couldn’t get to Tuesday having stumbled at the start. She ran no race in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth last July when pulling too hard. Since she’s shown her quality taking the Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot last October and on comeback this year was very impressive in the Coronation Cup at Epsom when accounting for Westover.

The other four-year-old West Wind Blows is the outsider of the four. Beaten by Pyledriver last time out in the Hardwicke Stakes over 1m4f he’d previously won a G3 at Longchamp over 1m2f.

In the spring five-year-old Dubai Honour went down under and put the Australians to bed in the Ranvet Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, both over 1m2f, and on the way home ran another very good race to be third beaten 2½L by Romantic Warrior in the QEII Cup at Sha Tin over the same trip.

The mare’s best form is over 1m4f, both her G1 wins coming over the middle distance, while the Dubai Honour is a 10f specialist, both his G1 wins at this trip, West Wind Blows has won twice at G3 level over the distance. Paddington has never gone further than a mile however like St Mark’s Basilica who won this two years ago for Aidan O’Brien he’s bred to get the trip. He also has the advantage of the weight-for-age allowance getting 10lbs from the Dubai Honour and West Wind Blows and receiving 7lbs from Emily Upjohn. He’s also seriously classy.
