Breeders Cup Friday’s Irish Runners

Irish runners are few and far between on Day 1 of the Breeders Cup. Only two go.

Twilight Jet goes for Michael O’Callaghan in the 5f G2 Juvenile Turf Sprint, the opening Breeders Cup race on the card on Friday and Glounthanue goes for Aidan O’Brien in the 1m G1 Juvenile Turf in the last.

Breeders Cup G2 Juvenile Turf Sprint 21.50 GMT

Twilight Jet has been on the go this season, ten runs, two wins, a Tipperary Maiden the first day of June, and his last run, the G3 Cornwallis Stakes at Newmarket in October. He’s got a lot of experience, eight of his runs have been at Group level, two were G1’s.

An expensive breeze up, he’s improving. The Cornwallis where he won readily was a drop-in class from his previous outing, the G1 Middle Park where he led until the last furlong weakening only in the finish to be beaten 1ยฝL. That was over 6f.

Can it Be Won

Yes Twilight Jet has got a good draw in stall 1. He quick out of the gates and he could be difficult to peg back.

Glounthanue won his Maiden first time out in April beating Castle Star who ran second in the Middle Park. He didn’t make it back to the racecourse until October with Aidan throwing him into the deep end in the Dewhurst, in need of the run, he performed well if a little green. The benefit of the pipe opener was seen a week later where he took the G3 Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown, a road travelled the year before by Poetic Flare.

Can it Be Won

Yes – Glounthanue is unexposed and comes here fresh, twice a winner, he looks a genuine G1 horse.

We don’t have quantity but we do have quality.
